James Earl Psychosexual therapist Rcihmond SW London

My practice is based in Hampton, SW London, where I work in person and online with clients across the UK and internationally. I also work as a psychosexual and relationship therapist at Innisfree Therapy, the sexual compulsivity and trauma clinic in Harley Street.

I have worked extensively with Relate, and am listed in the Relate Practitioners Directory as a sex therapy practitioner. I have also worked at All Points North, the US clinic in London's West End, and as an associate at London Bridge Therapy. I am a CPCAB-approved tutor for counsellors and psychotherapists in training.

Beyond my clinical work, I have contributed to The Guardian, Newsweek, and Liz Earle Wellbeing, been interviewed by Mariella Frostrup on Times Radio, and collaborated with Synima to produce a series of short mental health animations.

My therapeutic approach draws on psychosexual and relationship therapy as its foundation, alongside psychodynamic, systemic, existential, transactional analysis, mindfulness, and CBT frameworks. I have studied at the Institute of Family Therapy.

In my view, therapy works best as a genuinely collaborative process — I'm happy to discuss the approaches I use, and will sometimes suggest reading where it might deepen understanding or support change.

Before training as a therapist, I spent 25 years as a university lecturer in philosophy at Richmond, The American University in London, and worked as a professional jazz musician — as house pianist at The Ivy and Pont de la Tour, and headlining the Jazz Café. These aren't incidental footnotes: the philosophical training shapes how I think about people, and the musical life taught me something about timing, attunement, and what it means to truly listen.

I am fully insured, hold a current enhanced DBS certificate, and am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office. I maintain regular individual and group supervision and ongoing professional development.

I'm always happy to have an informal conversation — by phone, text, or email — before you decide whether to book.
