Babies
It's tempting to think a baby enters the world of language when it learns to speak: but in fact it is within language as soon it is spoken of. So it's important to ask: was the baby planned, or a happy accident, or a mistake? - was a girl or boy wanted? - how might it fulfill the parent's emotional needs? - what ambitions did the parents have for it, if any? This is a different level of reality for the baby which it encounters along with its own needs.
When it achieves speech, the articulation of its own desire is formed in the relation between what it needs, and what can be - and has been - expressed.
